Historic Americans and the Things They Say

In contrast to all the back-biting in today’s electoral landscape, we thought it would be good to celebrate some of our history with quotes that can and should be embraced by left, right and center alike. Remember that these now venerated hero’s of American history also had their detractors in their day and that only over time can history truly judge.

“Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” is considered by some as part of one of the most well crafted, influential sentences in the history of the English language. Get it at Chop Shop.

It was just a week after signing a treaty that ended the Revolutionary War when America’s only true cosmopolitan personality got real, saying: “There was never a good war or a bad peace”. Get it at Chop Shop.

Quotejones_main_cran_hires

During his engagement with HMS Serapis, Jones uttered, the legendary reply to a taunt about surrender from the British captain: “I have not yet begun to fight!”. Get it at Chop Shop.

Although there is some controversy over whether of not Lincoln was the true originator of the quote, there is ample evidence that he had on several occasions been quoted as stating, “You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time”. Even if it was not his, it is the classic Abe humor. Get it at Chop Shop.

Nathan Fox???s Abe Lincoln Astride a Bad Ass Hog

Rightmight_main_white_hires

We have been making things for the internets now for nearly 15 years and producing tees for about 5. One thing we never got sick of is the work of Nathan Fox. We were fortunate enough to host a desk in our studio for Nathan when he was just a wee illustrator working through his awkward 20s. Now his illustration muscles are showing and we commissioned a new tee design from him if not just to keep us on his good side.

Also check out Chopping Block’s portfolio site we made for Nathan back around 1997. Still looking good and Nathan keeps it up to date with fresh meat.

Retired They Might Be Giants Website as an Art Print

Tmbg_11x17_main

We are making our design for the official They Might Be Giants website available as a Gicl??e print now at chopshopstore.com. From about 1999 through 2007 the site was a strange shooting gallery that included an accordion, several targeted icons and the heads of presidents Lincoln, Roosevelt, Nixon and Taft. The site was designed by The Chopping Block and was one of the most recognized sites in our portfolio during those early years of dot com boom, scoring several prominent recognitions from organizations such as The One Show, Young Guns, ID Magazine, Communication Arts and Flash Forward. Sadly, the murmuring of the presidents cannot be reproduced in print.

Just for added fun, we are going to generate a random question for each print ordered on the plaque hovering above the accordion. Therefore, no two copies purchased will be the same.

Printed on archival Moab Rag Bright white. Weight is 190 GSM.
