Water By Numbers: Raising Funds and Water Access Awareness

All profits from the sale of this tee are donated to WellDone. A water awareness and access non-profit, working to bring clean drinking water to communities lacking access, and to drive global awareness and action in the fight against water scarcity. To learn more about WellDone or get involved, visit WellDone.org.

The design itself includes 27 icons relating to modern issues surrounding water access in the developing world. Each of these icons is also numbered and corresponds to a specific statistic. The key to all these numbers is printed on the inside of the back of the tee and is shown in the image above.

Thanks also goes out to Quist Industries for donating all the printing. Quist does a large amount of Chop Shop’s printing and is always top notch. They are like the Apple Computers of tshirt screen printing. Check out their site at quistindustries.com, which also happens to be a The Chopping Block production.

149 Celebrated Icons of Science Fiction Screen Print

Tshirts are great. You can print on them, put them over your torso and they help keep you modest and warm. The only real issue with them is that they are not the best canvasses for the smaller details. Most of the icons designed for Chop Shop’s SciFi, Horror/Fantasy and Rock Music series of tees include a level of detail that is simply lost when printed on tshirt fibers.

The SciFi Screen Print

Enter the Science Fiction Collection. A high quality screened poster featuring icons of 61 robots, 58 aliens and 30 various vehicles. Altogether adding up to a staggering 149 icons to contemplate while you really should be speding some quality time with your family. Exclusive to the poster are 14 icons that have not (as of this mailing) been included on any of the 3 scifi tshirt reprints (see above). The piece itself is printed in 3 colors, screened on a 14″x36″ sheet of 80lb poster stock and comes in your choice of black or white.

Remember there is also the Horror and Fantasy Screen Print featuring another 149 icons. See the special set offer at right.

Ross Berens Takes on The Solar System

One thing about space science posters is they are usually not designed very well. You see them in high schools or universities and often use back-dated images from missions dating back 30 years… or worse… they are badly illustrated with no relation to what these bodies actually look like. For this reason, I had always thought it would be a great project to make some well-designed posters of the planets that feature the amazing images we now have of them from modern missions.

Sure enough someone comes along and knocks the whole system out in one fantastic series. They are each available for sale, but the funny thing about doing one for each planet is that you will not likely have too many takers for Uranus or even Pluto. However, the design on some of these makes it pretty tempting to grab them up just for the pretty.

I can’t wait until New Horizons gets to Pluto and it looks nothing like what is shown here and the art needs to be updated. Ross does try to keep it real by including the hypothetical ring some expect to find at Pluto when New Horizons arrives in 2015, but where are the 3 moons!?

I would be a rube to not include Saturn. But the exclusion of the Galileans at Jupiter, no Charon on the Pluto poster and the absence of Titan here on the Saturn poster has me wondering if there is a moon series in the works? If so, put me down for a copy of Io.

Who is New on the SciFi Screen Print?

These are the robots, aliens and vehicles that were added to the Science Fiction Screen Print. None of these have appeared on any tshirt designs as of this posting. Can you get them all? One dates back almost 100 years while two are as new as a few months old.

Coming Soon: A New Design for Well Done

Chop Shop is about to release a tshirt design for the charity group WellDone. The organization strives to provide clean water for those without access by helping to implement water projects in their target communities. Some existing and upcoming projects include well drilling in West Africa, small scale water enterprise in India and water storage solutions in Kenya. A remarkable amount of sickness and death in these developing nations are the direct result of having no access to clean water resources. Check them out now at welldone.org or download this pdf to find out more.

Be sure to check back here or at chopshopstore.com in the next few days to see the design. The expected release date is Feb 4th.
